Dr. Edwards is from West Monroe, LA. He is happily married, and he and his wife have three children. He attended West Monroe High School, Northeast Louisiana University, Louisiana Tech University, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In his senior year of high school, he enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard where he served for seven years. He earned two Certificates of Commendation and the Army Achievement Medal during his military service. After his honorable discharge in 1997, Dr. Edwards returned to academia to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Northeast Louisiana University. He later completed a Master of Arts degree in Counseling & Guidance as well as a Master of Science degree in Health & Physical Education from Louisiana Tech University. He completed his Doctor of Education degree in Leadership with a cognate in Counseling at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). He has completed practicum and internships in private practice mental health settings, educational settings, and adolescent group home settings where he performed individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention.

Dr. Edwards has worked with people struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, anger, substance abuse, conduct disorder, defiance, behavioral disorders in children and adolescents, parenting issues, impulse control problems, sexual issues/addictions, and personality disorders. He also provides substance abuse, sexual abuse, pain management, and anger management treatment groups. He utilizes treatments that have been empirically validated such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Parent Management Training, Motivational Interviewing, etc. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) with Appraisal Privileges, a National Certified Counselor, a Louisiana State Certified Guidance Counselor with Lifetime Certification Plus 30, Registered Clinical Sexual Offender Treatment Provider, and a Certified Disaster Mental Health Services with the American Red Cross. Dr. Edwards is also the Director and Mental Health Consultant for Guardians for Angels, Inc., a Medicaid Provider Company which specializes in serving and treating persons with developmental disabilities as well as the elderly.

Dr. Edwards was also a Certified Fitness Trainer for three years through the International Sports Science Association, and he continues to emphasize the mind/body interaction in counseling. He worked for the Ouachita Parish School System for five years as a counselor and teacher prior to entering private practice full time, and he has been working as a counselor in private practice since 2004. He offers seminars for continuing education hours covering topics such as DBT, CBT, Christian Counseling Integration, PMT, treatment strategies for high risk patients, and ethics. He also teaches Dual Enrollment, Introductory Psychology,and Developmental Psychology as an instructor for ULM at Claiborne Christian School, and he is highly motivated to challenge his students to become critical thinkers and to strengthen their faith in Christ. He is a firm believer in integration, and he uses the truth found in Scripture as his foundation for counseling and teaching.
